It's easy to overlook having sufficient funds in your checking account. At Citadel, we provide protection from budget miscalculations with Debit Card Courtesy Pay! Citadel's Debit Card Courtesy Pay can cover your debit card transactions if your purchases exceed your available balance so you can shop with confidence. Qualified Courtesy Pay users will not have their debit card transactions declined.
Overdraft protection is also available at Citadel. When your checking account does not have the available funds to cover a transaction, overdraft protection could be activated. Transfers from a Personal Line of Credit, Money Market or a Star Savings account would be activated to cover any unavailable funds.
To enroll or unenroll in these services, log into your account in Online & Mobile Banking and follow the directions for your device.
Desktop:
- Select the three dots ... (on the right) in the menu.
- Select Overdraft Protection.
- For Overdraft Protection, select the account to manage and follow the prompts to manage Overdraft Protection for that account.
- For Courtesy Pay, select Courtesy Pay from the menu on the left.
- Select Accept & Continue.
- Use the toggles to turn Courtesy Pay off and on for eligible accounts. Authorized / Not Authorized will be indicated under the account name.
- You will also see a green confirmation bar at the bottom of your screen when you make your selection.
Mobile:
- Select Menu (bottom right of the screen).
- Scroll down to More and select, then select Overdraft Protection.
- For Overdraft Protection, select the account to manage on the Overdraft Protection tab and follow the prompts to enable or disable Overdraft Protection for that account.
- For Courtesy Pay, select the account to manage on the Courtesy Pay tab and follow the prompts to enable or disable Courtesy Pay for that account.

This notice refers to our Courtesy Pay program:
Citadel offers Courtesy Pay for its members and may pay overdrafts for the following types of transactions:
- Checks
- ACH withdrawals
- Bill Payer payments
- Recurring debit card transactions (e.g., monthly payments debited from your account)
We pay overdrafts at our discretion, which means we do not guarantee that we will always authorize and pay any type of transaction. If we do not pay an overdraft, your transaction will be declined and not paid.
If you want to use Courtesy Pay to pay overdrafts for one time, everyday debit card transactions (e.g. Starbucks®, Home Depot®, grocery stores, gas stations, etc.), you must opt in and give us your permission. You can opt in by:
- Complete the opt-in form in Online Banking by selecting 'Overdraft Protection' in the main menu.
- Visiting any Citadel Branch Location
- Calling Citadel toll free at (800)-666-0191
You can opt out of Courtesy Pay at any time by contacting us. You cannot use Courtesy Pay to pay for overdrafts on ATM withdrawals.
When you use Courtesy Pay, we will charge you a fee of $33 each time we pay an overdraft. We will limit to 5 the total number of Courtesy Pay Fees and Insufficient Funds Fees charged on any one calendar day. Once you have overdrawn your account, you must bring it to a positive balance as soon as possible. Citadel will close and charge off overdrawn member deposit accounts that have a negative balance for more than 60 days. For the purpose of making the decision to pay or return a check or ACH transaction and to charge a fee, we treat each original presentment and representment as an individual transaction. Any fees charged will count against your Courtesy Pay limit.
